That Your Prayers May Not Be Hindered
That Your Prayers May Not Be Hindered…I’ll bet most of you didn’t know that The Apostle Peter was a marriage counselor? He knew about answered prayer and what stops prayer from being answered. A married couple who know Jesus and how to pray can get answered prayer TOGETHER in a big way. There is a flow when a husband and wife agree in what they are praying about, but there are hindrances that affect just about every couple that has ever lived.
Strife in a marriage (1) can stop prayer before they ever get started. Peter knew about how strife in marriage…here’s what he wrote in The Bible
1 Peter 3:7 “You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.”
Another word for “strife” is “bickering”. Bickering is a spirit of strife that attacks marriages and it’s the number one thief in a marriage, but that’s not all bickering does to rob a marriage.
Let’s look at a list of the things bickering can destroy in a relationship.
Strife/Bickering destroys:
- Intimacy, both physical and emotional
- Communication, an important aspect in a relationship…especially in prayer.
- Love of one another. (Remember that “Faith works by love”) (2)
- Destroys “the blessing flow”
- Hinders or even stops your prayers
- Oneness
- Positive growth of children
This is a small list of the destruction that Strife/Bickering can cause It is important to focus on the steps that Peter and Paul wrote so that we can begin the flow of intimacy in your relationship.
In Dr. W. H. Penewit’s next blog we will see exactly how Paul taught husbands to make a big difference and get answers to prayer in a marriage.
