Soul Trauma Part 1

Hurt, HurtingMemories…we all have them. Some memories that we have can be good, such as “fond memories” or just remembering good things that happened.

So what do we do with negative bad memories? It seems that it is these memories that are the most damaging. these memories can affect us in such way that it will control us more that we may realize. Lets take a look at some of the things that bad memories can affect us.

John the Apostle new well about trauma and the affect that it can cause in a human being. Lets read what wrote. John 3:1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

1.  TRAUMA. We all have trauma in our souls in one form or another, and if we find this trauma we will be able to understand where it came from and how to get rid of it. Trauma in ones soul can stop healing, or blessing. It can cause anxiety and deep depression that can cause sickness, high blood pressure and the list can go on and on. Trauma can be linked to many types of cancer and other illnesses

2. Lets take a look at other things that trauma can cause.

3. Trauma can cause anxiety and other disorders.

  • Panic disorder. This means you experience recurring panic attacks at unexpected times.
  • Phobia. This is an excessive fear of a specific object, situation, or activity.

The list goes on and on…but by now you are getting the point.

4. The apostle John was keenly aware about soul trauma as we read in his writing. His first point is that he shows us is that trauma can affect us in ways that we may not even be aware.

He states that “ I pray that in all respects”  He was looking at the whole picture here. If your soul is not prospering it can cause

  1. Anxiety and stress that can cause us to make wrong decisions.
  2. Anxiety that causes failing marriages.
  3. Anxiety that can cause “noisy chatter in your mind. This “chatter” can eventually cause suicidal tendencies.
  4. Anxious thoughts that are difficult to control
  5. Restlessness
  6. Trouble concentrating.

John new that having a prospering soul meant Heal of the body, healing of relationships, healing financially etc. The list can go on and on too!

Lets look at prosperity for a few minutes. When most people hear about prosperity they immediately think of money. And they are correct! John was talking about money BUT! he was writing

about much more than just money. For example. I have been married to my beautiful wife for 40 years and we are very happy to boot!. So I can  that I have a prosperous marriage. I am able to do this because I have a prosperous  soul.

Getting rid of the trauma in ones soul isn’t as difficult as it may sound.

When we think about trauma we usually remember someone that hurt us in some way. This could be as simple as remembering something that way said about you or to you.

But what about things that were done to you physically? These memories are usually the most painful and difficult to deal with.  All these things are what John was talking about in 3 John 1:3:1-2. To be prosperous or healthy or having a healed financial situation in ones life we must look to our own soul. This is where we must look in a place that can hurt the most if we do not understand why. That place is the place of forgiveness.

When we think about forgiveness we usually think about “letting the person off the hook”. This will tend to make us feel like we are getting the short end of the stick.

But there is more to this than that! Come back to read part 2 if our study about soul trauma.
