Marriage, a loose to gain relationship Part 1
Marriage, a loose to gain relationship Part 1
A marriage between a man and a woman is one of the most powerful unions in the universe.
But it is a union that the devil will attack with all his might.
Anyone married more than 6 months knows exactly what I’m talking about.
The honeymoon is over and now it’s time to get down to business…and what is this business?
I got good news for you it can be done!
Loose to gain…whats important
Let’s look at Mark chapter 10 verse 8 which says “and the two shall become one flesh so they are no longer two, but one flesh.”
My experience as a therapist has been that couples have the most difficulty losing their individuality while they are becoming one.
And it seems that as the marriage matures and the couple matures it doesn’t get any easier.
Learning to become one as two individuals it’s something that the word of God is very specific about.
So loosing the weaknesses as an individual and gaining the strength as a couple can be exciting and challenging.
Loose to gain…Jesus as your high priest
In my personal time with the Lord today I’ve been reading in Philippians chapter 3 starting at verse 7. Which says:
“but whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.”
I have had this experience in my own life, and I think I am beginning to understand what Paul meant.
We think we have it all together when we first meet that special someone that we are going to marry.
And we have great grandiose plans to put ourselves into our mate, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
Those strengths that we think we have that will strengthen the marriage actually might be weaknesses that are deterrents to a strong marriage.
So, if we come to that conclusion and we realized that we weren’t as prepared as we should be then what do we do?
If you look at that person standing in front of you, your mate…
They are a unique individual created by God and they have a certain needs and desires that need to be fulfilled.
So our task then becomes learning our mate who are they really?
So often when a young couple comes into my office one of them usually says this isn’t the person that I’m married! I don’t know who this person is
They are the same person that you fell in love with and married only you didn’t see the depths of their desires and needs so…
Your task then becomes learning who they really are…
Part 2 of this series will come soon!
