The Importance of intimacy… Just what is intimacy? What does it mean? What does it contain?
Intimacy fosters trust between people…it can bond people together. Intimacy isn’t just sexual, although sexual intimacy is vital to a marriage.
Intimacy can be between people of the same gender or it can be a bond between a large group of people.
Let’s look at how Paul saw intimacy:
Ephesians 1:15
“For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints,”
Paul saw the intimacy that existed between The Body of Christ and how they loved one another.
He realized that is was a special bond that they had …but he also realized where it came from
“having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints,”
Paul realized that the intimacy that The Church had came from the love of Jesus Christ himself!
Is intimacy just for married people? Or is it for other too? Before we answer these questions we must learn just what intimacy is.
Intimacy is?
According to Dictionary.com, Intimacy is:
“(of an association, knowledge, understanding, etc.) arising from close personal connection or familiar experience.”
Association: “Not simply associating with another …but sharing by way of trust that which is valuable to ones self“.
in other words its like when you share a deep personal secret with another person.
You will be hurt deeply if that person that you shared with laughs at you or betrays your trust.
But when they reach out and love you and respect what you trust them with …the bonds between you are strengthened.
When this bond is created by 2 people it begins something wonderful…it:
- Creates relationships that are not seen on Earth but are divinely powerful
Proverbs 18:24″A man of too many friends comes to ruin, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. ”
A person who is “closer than a brother” will strengthen you and pray with you.
They will bless you when you need it and be there to help you through the tough times.
2. An intimate relationship between 2 people will bless you when you are there for them when they are in need.
When we bless others it heaps blessings on us as well and strengthens the bond between 2 people.
