ADD/ADHD REALLY? PART 1

ADD/ADHD REALLY? PART 1What is ADD/ADHD?

This will not be your typical article about ADD/ADHD

Perhaps your child’s teacher has called you and told you that your child simply cannot sit still.

They are telling you that your child’s grades are suffering because he or she simply cannot concentrate.

She tells you that she is suspects that your child has ADD/ADHD

Let’s look at this for just a moment.

I searched for a definitive test to discover ADD/ADHD  In a child or  an adult.

The following is typical with all of the articles that I have read.

“There’s no definitive test for ADHD — no blood analysis, no brain scan, no genetic screening,

so evaluating and diagnosing ADHD is not a quick or simple task.”  Thomas E. Brown, Ph.D.

In my experience doctor Brown is 100% correct! There is no definitive test for ADD/ADHD.

When I was a child I was diagnosed with ADD and of course and those days  Ritalin  was the drug of choice.

Ritalin and I did not get along well together. It kept me in a fog and made me unable to concentrate on even the most minimal task.

It gave me chronic insomnia and as I got older I simply refused to take it.

So the question is where does ADD/ADHD come from?

I realized that neuroscience will argue what I’m about to say,

because they have their own ideas about how the brain is wired and what really caused us ADD/ADHD

I am going to offer another suggestion that is drug free and will work if it is applied correctly.

Over the 25 plus years that my wife and I have been in practice we have worked with

countless men women and children who had been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD

If you go to the top of the page on our website and click the link the 5 temperaments...

You will be shown what the 5 temperaments are and how we apply them in counseling.

We are going to concentrate on one specific temperament.

And that temperament is the Sanguine temperament.

The vast majority of the men women and children that I have worked with

who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD were Sanguine in their inclusion area of their temperament.

Inclusion is where your social orientation and your intellectual energies are.

By now you may be getting the picture.

Each temperament that we work with has what we call temperament needs.

These temperament needs will be met one way or the other. Here is how I explain temperament needs to my patients…

Trying to ignore meeting you or temperament needs is like trying not to breathe. How long can you hold your breath?

This is about as long as you can stop meeting your temperament needs. ( Hopefully you have clicked the link temperament needs and now know what they really are)

So the question is how do these temperament needs fit this temperament called the sanguine

and how does this fit in with ADD/ADHD in your child or possibly even yourself?

The answer will be found in part 2 of this series. I hope that you tune in.
